Greetings, literacy friends!
Thank you for visiting us!
Our Open House on September 07, 2007, “World
Literacy Day”, was a success! We're especially glad for the participation
and assistance from the diverse sectors of our Education Community!
Our special thanks goes to Practical Parent Education / Plano ISD for
allowing us to host the Open House at their location. Also a special
thanks goes out to Wal-Mart, of the Coit Rd. @ 190, Plano location,
for the generous in-kind donation of books on Women’s Health,
and to DFW International Organization for the donation of Guides For
Economical Health Services booklets. Both materials were presented to
the service providers who were present and some were delivered to those
who were unable to attend. Our sincere thanks to all of you who attended
and shared with us a great networking and social moment.
We are in the home stretch of Plano Book Festival!
Our very active Board is operating at full throttle and we all are pitching
in various ways while carrying on with all the other activities of our
Council. The PBF is our main annual fundraiser. Although the PBF is
free for the public, we receive funds from the booths and concessions,
as well as from the sale of books for the participant authors. Because
CCALC is a fully volunteer non-profit organization, funds we raise primarily
will go back to the community in the form of mini-grants to help support
adult literacy programs.
If you would like to get involved in the PBF and/or
literacy work, please let us know by contacting us.
Your support will help increase awareness of the literacy
needs in our community and find the answers for it. Please feel free
to support this worthy event.
We look forward seeing you there!
Rosa Maria Crocker, CCALC president
